Aloe Vera Juice Dosages: How Much to Drink Daily?

How Are Aloe Drinks Made?
Aloe Vera beverages are typically made from the inner gel, a clear, thin, gelatinous substance scooped out from the center of the Aloe leaf. The inner Aloe gel is different than the whole leaf in terms of consumption, as the pure gel is the part of the plant that is completely safe and edible. It is nearly devoid of aloin, the anthraquinone glycoside, which has been the source of much attention in studies. Too much aloin from any source can cause diarrhea, bowel inflammation, and dehydration.
Read the label - you should only purchase pure Aloe Vera beverages that are made from the gel and do not contain potentially dangerous aloin.
How Much Aloe Vera Juice To Drink Daily?
It is important to note that pure Aloe Vera is completely safe to consume in any amount, so long as you avoid the aloin found in the skin of the whole leaf. In other words, it is very difficult to drink too much of any Aloe product that is properly prepared and processed.
That being said, the recommended daily dosage will depend on what type of Aloe product you are using:
Aloe Vera Juice/Extract
Aloe Vera extracts or juices are processed from the pure inner gel to concentrate the beneficial compounds and create a drinkable liquid that mixes easily into other beverages. Because of their concentration, the rule of thumb for Aloe extracts is usually to take 2 oz. twice daily (4 oz. per day total).
Recommended Daily Dose: 4 oz.

Aloe Vera Water
Aloe Vera Water is essentially pure inner aloe gel that is processed and diluted with water to make a delicious and healthy beverage (may or may not contain pulp). There is no limit to how much Aloe water one should drink, but to experience the full benefits of Aloe, at least one full bottle (16 oz. per day) should be consumed.
Recommended Daily Dose: 16 oz.
Aloe Vera Supplements
Aloe Vera supplements are processed and concentrated to pack all the power of Aloe Vera into a capsule or powder. Concentrations can vary wildly depending upon the quality of Aloe plants used and production methods involved. Read the label on your Aloe supplement for specific instructions, but as a general rule of thumb 2 capsules (600 mg) per day should be taken.
Recommended Daily Dose: 600 mg (~2 capsules)
Raw Aloe Vera
If you have your own plants you may choose to consume raw Aloe that you harvest yourself. If you do, take caution to avoid consuming any part of the outer leaf as it contains potentially dangerous aloin that can cause undesirable side effects. Whether you eat it straight or mix it into other food/beverages, take around 2 ounces daily of the inner gel to experience maximum benefits.
Recommended Daily Dose: 2 oz.
Aloe vera juices and waters are widely available in most supermarkets, grocery stores, health food stores, and online. As mentioned above, before purchasing, read the label! Make sure the beverage is made from just pure Aloe vera gel (not the leaf and rind, too). Aloe Vera drinks can be delicious and refreshing while also a healthy food choice.
